Obituary for J.D. Oxford

J.D. Oxford
J.D. Oxford, 87, of Tazewell, TN, passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2017, at the Claiborne Medical Center in Tazewell, TN.

He was born February 27, 1930 in Tazewell, TN to the late Zack Lee Oxford and Sallie (Glovier) Oxford.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Lois Oxford Southerland and his brother Chester L. Oxford of Knoxville, TN.

Left to mourn his passing are the following members of his family:

His wife of 61 years: Jacqueline Carroll Oxford

Brother-in-law: Ernest L. Carroll of Pineville, KY.

Nephew: Brady L. Carroll of Pineville, KY.

And a host of many cousins and friends.

J.D. retired from Magnavox Corporation of Greeneville, TN., in 1990 with 30 plus years of service. He served two years in the United States Army during the Korean War.

J.D. was a farmer, a truck driver, a cattleman, and an avid hunter and fisherman. Having made many hunting trips to Canada for moose, hunting trips to Virginia for deer, and three trips to Palton, Maine to kill two bears. He attended many bluegrass festivals in Virginia, Kentucky, Hugo, Oklahoma, and Blue Ridge, Georgia. He and his wife enjoyed traveling out west.

He made many friends in his travels and was always invited to come back to visit them. He also got to visit some of his cousins, who lived in some of the areas that he delivered company products in. Everyone kidded him about having cousins in every town. He loved every one of them and always said that he had cousins by the dozens.

J.D. had a heart of gold and would give anything he had to a friend in need. He loved his parents, his family, and his friends. He attended several churches in his lifetime: Pump Springs Baptist, Pine Hill, and Binghamtown Baptist Church.

The world may forget you as time goes passing by, but your friends will remember and so will I.
-Written by his Wife Jacqueline Oxford
